Prior authorization for meds - WTF?

My 7 year old daughter takes Singular for her allergies. I got a written prescription for it from her Pediatrician and took it to the pharmacy. The pharmacy employee explained to me that my daughter's doctor needs to call my insurance company to give prior authorization for the medicine. This process can take 48-72 hours, and it is to "ensure that she really needs the medication". SO, why would my doctor WRITE the prescription if she didn't actually need it?!?!? Because of this bulls**t rule, my daughter will be without her medication for 2-3 days. And no one will actually CALL me when it is finally authorized. I have to check back every day or so. I am SO tired of being treated like crap from our Insurance company. This is just one of many reasons why I absolutely HATE our Health Insurance company.

By the way, my insurance company is Destiny Health. So, if you are ever interviewing for a job with a company that uses that plan, RUN THE OTHER WAY! Destiny Health totally SUCKS! More on why they completely suck in future blogs...

Can anyone out there feel my pain?
